Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel (Cream/Gel) Dosage and Application Schedule
Diclofenac sodium topical gel, 1% is applied to the affected joint(s) on a scheduled basis 4 times daily. [1] Dosing is based on the anatomic site with defined per-application amounts and maximum daily limits. [1]
Dosing Card Measurement and Application Technique
The gel should be measured using the enclosed dosing card. [1] The dosing card is applied to the gel within the labeled 2 g or 4 g line before application. [1] After applying, the gel should be gently rubbed into the skin. [1] If the hands are the treatment site, washing the hands should be delayed for at least 1 hour after application. [1]
Lower Extremities Application Schedule (Feet, Ankles, Knees)
Apply 4 g to the affected foot, ankle, or knee 4 times daily. [1] Do not apply more than 16 g per day to any single joint of the lower extremities. [1]
Upper Extremities Application Schedule (Hands, Wrists, Elbows)
Apply 2 g to the affected hand, wrist, or elbow 4 times daily. [1] Do not apply more than 8 g per day to any single joint of the upper extremities. [1]
Maximum Daily Dose Across All Treated Joints
Total daily dose should not exceed 32 g per day across all affected joints. [1]
Administration Precautions After Each Application
Showering or bathing should be avoided for at least 1 hour after application. [1] The gel should not be applied to open wounds. [1] Contact with eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided. [1] External heat and/or occlusive dressings should not be applied to treated joints. [1]
Missed Dose Instruction
A missed dose should be skipped and the regular dosing schedule resumed. [2]
